SERGEANT FLOYD MONUMENT, NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK (05/2010)

Sgt. Charles Floyd Jr. was the only member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition to die during their 3-year journey. Sgt. Floyd died here on August 20, 1804. The 100-foot-high white stone obelisk at the summit of Floyd's Bluff marks the burial place of Sgt. Floyd. His burial site also offers an excellent view of Sioux City, Iowa, and the Missouri River.
